At the risk of contradicting my last post….

One night while sharing a DJ booth on a smoldering patio out behind a little bar called Creek Side (somebody pour out a little Lone Star) with my good friend and neighbor. I was reminded from somewhere deep with in the most infinite omniverse that music is art, not something put there just to occupy the empty space between your drunken ears as you wonder how you could possibly top the “wittiest” thing you ever said, or ponder, “what am I gonna do with my hands after I flick out this last bogie“. It’s something to be appreciated with all the fervor and doting adulation you would trust upon the opposite sex. Love on your art and it’ll love you back.

I have a friend that paints and I told him once how his art was always, ON. Like you don’t have to turn a switch or push a button. If your eyes were just aimed in it’s direction, it was doing what it due, one way or another. I guess that’s one of the things music lovers enjoy about parties, especially throwing them. At a rate of around 2:30 seconds per piece, our favorite art seems like it could almost choke the oxygen right out the air, an intoxicating and empowering sensation. Particularly when most of your favorite art is usually fighting just to be aired in the first place. For a few brief hours you couldn’t escape it if you wanted to. If you’re really lucky you have to yell over it.

I guess I said all that just to say it seems like it’s getting harder and harder to get what you need around here, no? Maybe I’m spoiled, or too sensitive, or just naive, but where’s the love?! I mean scenes change but I wonder who out there is still getting their artsy on when they leave the house. Not like that snooty kind of “artsy” more like that dreaming out of a project window kinda artsy, that bare foot half starved tryna survive a slum kind of artsy. That “It’s over already? Damn how am I gonna get home“, kind of artsy. That, “Yeah we can hang out“, kind of artsy. The kind that made you feel like, “I’ll be damned, but I think I’m actually better for this experience“. Like, the “I think I grew a little!” kind of artsy.

I guess it’s all relative, but…and… I’m sure I’m missing some good stuff, but…it kinda seems like so many things are supposed to be the shit, but never actually are the shit. I guess that’s how it’s supposed to be. The chosen few and all that, but a real artsy sure thing would be nice.

I mean don’t get me wrong there’s still some banging parties out there or we would’ve all shriveled up and blown away by now. Still I can’t shake this, now what sort of sensation, like who’s gonna do just what it due, and only what it due. I guess the real trick is to due it in such a way that’s it’s never been done.

Taking a step back I guess I feel like that about most everything artistically inclined. Still.

For your scrutiny.

P.S. I think it’s phucked up that you can describe a function as having music AND art, but I can’t use the word irregardless. Lame
