Wesh,

So I’m just chillin’ at Canvas last saturday as the place starts getting full but it’s still early…There’s a good mixed crowd and I’m trying to get people to come take pictures in front of the backdrop before it gets too crowded.

I walk over to this table with 3 girls just chilling sipping on whatever. As I suggest that they go get their pictures taken before the bumrush, one tells me straight up: “I’m from Brooklyn…I’m not used to being around this many white people“. I had to pause for a second to look around and see exactly what she meant. And I could quickly count the number of white people in the place on 1.5 hands (excluding the bar staff). Then I paused again (I needed a moment…when’s a Twix when you need one) and take a good look at her and no…My eyes ain’t deceiving me…This girl is white! Well, technically, she might be mixed but she was probably half white, half something else but I think the white team won the battle over her skin color (even the make-up didn’t help).

I just told her that it was still early to make such claim and she kept going: “do you know a blacker spot to check out? I heard some place named District has a lotta black folks there tonight“. I guess it’s true. The dominant color of the people inside a bar makes the color of the bar, at least for that night. I simply replied that Canvas would eventually turn black. She just had to bare with her awkardness towards those 5 white people on the other side of the bar for a little longer. She then asked for directions to District which I gave her.

I guess I’m glad I could help and recommend our friends at Trifecta. I just had never heard anybody say that, let alone a white girl. I could not make this up so I just thought I’d share.
