Every night I go out I’ve see multiple women stumble, sprain their ankles or even fall wearing today’s latest high heel fashion. I’m not talking the 1-3 inch range of heels; I’m talking about the 4-6 inch heel or even 7-9 inches off the ground heel due to the platform trend. Seriously, what is up with women trying to imitate giraffes? Are we trying to figure out if the air up there is different?

Believe me, I’m a serious high heel lover. In fact, you will rarely see me out on the town without a pair of heels on. I might even run in the next stampede stiletto race. So I’m a clear supporter of a nice heel, but a heel that compliments you… not the club feet Geisha style steps/stumbling I’m seeing so much of these days.

Just because heel fashion is getting higher and higher doesn’t mean we should join in on the fad. Yes, those heels can be sexy if you’re standing still, but if a shoes purpose is to help us get from one place to another, then how is that going to help?

How do you know if your heels are too damn high?

  1. If you can’t take two steps without stumbling
  2. If you’ve lost feeling in your toes and its only 10pm
  3. If you look like your on stilts or trying out for the circus
  4. If you are causing yourself or others bodily harm
  5. If strangers are putting dollars in your outfit
  6. If the swag in your swagger has become the stutter in your geisha walk

So in an effort to help my fellow ladies decide what heel is best for them… Here are few questions we should all ask ourselves before you leave the house.

When considering 4-6 or 7-9 inch platform heel for the night, please ask yourself:

  • Will I need to walk? OR Can I stand still all night where I am going?
  • Does my purse or clutch have enough room for band aides, gauze and/or flip flops?
  • Am I ok with walking barefoot in the street?
  • Do I have a fear of flashing someone when falling down?
  • Does my health insurance cover liability for others?

If you have a problem with any of the above, then you need to rethink your heel decision for the night.
